Non-fault car accidents can be exceptionally expensive, and that's unfair

Non-fault car accidents can be exceptionally expensive for the innocent motorist - and that's unfair.

Recent research highlights a pattern of high costs imposed on drivers even though the accident was not their fault.

Of 2,062 motorists questioned, around 19% said they had been involved in a car accident in the last 5 years and, of these, more than two-thirds (69%) said they were not at fault.

Over a third (36%) reported that they lost out financially following a road traffic collision that wasn't their fault.

The data further confirms that many unsuspecting motorists making a claim still had to pay their excess (an average of £215 per claim), with 41% having to pay between £150-£349, depending on the terms and conditions of their individual insurance policy.
On average, what are motorists having to pay?

Research further confirms that people who had incurred travel expenses following a collision had to pay out £588 (on average) of their own money.

For those who had to fund their own personal injury compensation claims, they paid an average of £2,036. The highest uninsured loss figure recorded was for loss of earnings at £3,091.
UK insurers' pricing methods add to the problem because they penalise the non-fault motorist.

UK insurers' policy pricing calculations are still based on the statistical probability of a policyholder being involved in a future claim, regardless of liability.

That means if you make a non-fault claim, your premium will go up at renewal even if you have protected no claims.
What can we conclude from this important and compelling research? And what can be done to improve the situation for people?

If you've ever made a non-fault claim on your car insurance and found yourself out of pocket when it comes to paying your excess, hiring a temporary car, loss of earnings and so on, you are certainly not alone.

Across the UK there are thousands of people each year that find themselves being dragged into a costly situation following a non-fault accident.

And that's not fair!

This is why we created Total Motor Assist that completely removes all of these problems for our members.
How does Total Motor Assist completely remove the problem?

It's beautifully simple: we avoid a claim on your insurance altogether!

If you're involved in an accident that is the fault of an identified and insured third party, there is no need to claim on your own insurance - because the claim is actually against the third party insurer.
  • Your insurance excess payment? Gone.
  • Vehicle recovery and storage costs? Taken care of for you.
  • Repairs to the highest standards? Done.
  • Another car like your own to drive? Delivered.
  • Travel and other out-of-pocket expenses? Dealt with.
  • Your insurance premium going up at renewal? Can't happen.
Once we avoid the claim on your insurance, you're free and clear from all the costly issues that other people suffer. And, of course, you're getting better services as well from us - such as a like-for-like hire car that's delivered to your door, rather than a nasty little courtesy car that you have to travel out and collect yourself.

So everything about Total Motor Assist membership mounts up to put you in a much, much stronger position than our members would otherwise be without us.
